TrépanierBaer Presents Oscar Cahén at Art Toronto

TrépanierBaer Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition featuring a selection of rarely seen, singularly outstanding works by the esteemed multidisciplinary artist and founding member of Painters Eleven, Oscar Cahén (1916-1957).

“It is the strength and fecundity of the artworks Oscar Cahén left us that validate his multidisciplinary approach as a fully rounded research methodology. The “tremendous scope of his magnificent painting talent,” as one reviewer (Dorothy Pfeiffer) put it in 1960 is what make(s) him a pivotal figure in Canadian Art, and it is the contribution by which we can appreciate him most.” Jaleen Grove, Oscar Cahén - Life and Work, 2015.

“If any one man can be given credit for the vitality of Toronto art in the 1950’s that man is Oscar Cahén.” Robert Fulford, “Tribute To Cahén”, Toronto Star, 1959.

“Cahén was by far the giant of the group.” Tom Hogdson interview with Joan Murray, 1977.
