One of Oscar Cahén's earlier positions was as art director of Magazine Digest. He was responsible for designing the covers and providing some inside spot illustration. Being in control of the covers allowed him to play with the typography, and to innovate by ocacasionally wrapping the graphics of the cover round the spine and onto the back. Cahén also received poster assignments and record album covers. Some tearsheets of Chatelaine covers in his papers suggest he also guest-designed a series of those too.
